Woodwork maintenance

About maintenance of woodwork products

When I hold a solid woodwork in my hand, I can't say anything about it. Many will have experience. Many people get intoxicated by the warmth and beauty of wood grain, which is not as light as plastic and not as heavy or cold as metal. The goodness of woodwork is that the more you use it, the deeper the taste. You will want to be proud of it as a medal that has survived many years, such as a few scratches and stains, but some maintenance is required to keep up with it for a longer period of time.

Basics of woodwork maintenance

It's a natural thing, so it's easy to think that it's best to keep it natural, but since it was cut out from the forest and processed as a woodwork, half of it is already an artificial object. It's best to care and take care of it. Not only will it last longer, but it will also increase your attachment.

Pay attention to the storage location and storage location

Unlike plastic and metal, wood is a material that is greatly affected by humidity and temperature, and we want to be careful about the storage location. It is preferable to avoid direct sunlight and to avoid dampness that is not too dry, except near the air conditioner.

Also, some discoloration and scratches can be proud of as a medal that looks back on the years, but mold cannot be overlooked. Maintenance is important even for coffee cups and spoons that are used on a daily basis. It is necessary to take measures such as wiping it off immediately without leaving it wet or placing it in a place where it can be easily dried.

Wiping maintenance is a bean

It is important to wipe off any woodwork daily to prevent it from being left covered with dust. The reason is that the dusty area becomes a hotbed for mold. Wipe the beans with a soft, dry cloth.

If it gets dirty, it can be easily removed by wiping it off with a mirror-finished or urethane-painted woodwork, but oil-painted or unpainted woodwork may cause stains. Depending on the stage of dirt, you can wipe it off with a tightly wrung towel, or dilute a neutral detergent and use it. ..

How to wipe off dirt

First, dilute the neutral detergent with lukewarm water about 100 times. Soak a soft cloth in it, squeeze it tightly, and then wipe it off. Even if the dirt is removed at this point, if the detergent remains on the woodwork, it will stain again. Another soft cloth should be dipped in lukewarm water and wiped off so that no detergent remains. Finally, as with routine maintenance, wipe with a dry cloth.

Things you shouldn't do with woodwork maintenance

In recent years, towels made of microfiber material have been distributed because it is easy to remove dirt and dust. However, it is not suitable for wiping wood products. Wood is a delicate material, so if you use a cloth containing chemical fibers, it may be scratched or the paint may come off.

Speaking of mold control, it is a general laundry case that uses a mold remover, a bleaching agent for stubborn stains, and a strong acid / alkaline detergent, and does not apply to woodwork products. It is illegal to use mold removers or acidic / alkaline detergents on woodwork. Not only will the surface paint be peeled off, but it will also create stains and stains, leaving it in an irreparable state.

Maintenance of urethane coated products

Most of the furniture lined up in furniture stores is urethane-painted. Since the coating film is thick and hard, it has the advantage of being hard to scratch and easily wiping off dirt, and it is said that it will last for 10 years if there are no troubles or NG acts. For maintenance of urethane-painted woodwork, a daily cleaning range, wiping with a dry cloth will suffice.

On the other hand, there are disadvantages such as being very noticeable once scratched and difficult to repair with DIY. Also, be aware that the paint film will whiten if it comes into direct contact with high-temperature objects.

Maintenance of solid wood woodwork

Solid wood wood products include unpainted products and oil-painted wood products that are infiltrated with vegetable oil. Oil painting is also called an oil finish, and you can enjoy the feel and texture of woodwork products without creating a coating film, and prevent corrosion and deterioration. Since there is no coating film, the disadvantage is that it is easily scratched and dirty.

As with urethane coated products, daily maintenance is as simple as wiping with a soft, dry cloth, but the coating effect will diminish over time. Therefore, it is important to perform regular maintenance at a pace of about once every six months to one year. Maintenance is oil painting. However, no special equipment or technique is required, just soak a small amount of commercially available oil or wax in a soft cloth and wipe it along the grain of wood. Finally, wipe it off with a dry cloth to finish the maintenance. Since it is innocent, you can remove some scratches on the taste, and you can DIY repair the scratches you care about with careful filing and oil painting.

Woodwork that is inherited

It is also a good point of woodwork that the taste is deeper and the attachment increases with each repetition of maintenance and repair to the extent possible. Woodwork, like families and pets, is life-saving. HAND in HAND stocks and sells woodwork products that are suitable for generations. Part of the proceeds is donated to forest conservation activities because we hope that the forests that produced the woodwork will also be passed down from generation to generation. May all life be in a circulating world.
